Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born August 8, 1989, in Paris. After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma enrolled at the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma realized that she wanted to be an actress. For many years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned the art of acting and dancing. In a school play and an Stagecoach Production, Emma took the lead at the age 10 and performed. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. After eight auditions consistently, director David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast for the roles of the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001 it set new records for its opening day opening and the opening weekend's earnings. Critics gave high praise to the film, and especially those who were young. The highly distributed British publication The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma's performance was recognized and was awarded five awards for the movie.
